OUR MUSIC MINISTRY

"Praise the Lord. Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heavens. Praise him for his acts of power; praise him for his surpassing greatness. Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet, praise him with the harp and lyre, praise him with timbrel and dancing, praise him with the strings and pipe, praise him with the clash of cymbals, praise him with resounding cymbals. Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord." - Psalm 150

Welcome to the music ministry at First Presbyterian Church! Music plays a vital role in worship in our reformed tradition. It is an integral part of our worship and provides opportunities for all ages and talent levels.

Chancel Choir

Dr. Don Rogers,

Director of Music

M.L. Marley, Organist

The Chancel Choir is the primary ensemble that provides music for all services of the church and is open to all singers from high school through adult.  In addition to providing regular anthems and other music for the Sunday morning services, the choir also provides special music for Advent/Christmas, Lent/Easter, and other feast days during the church year, as well as leading the singing at most funeral services.

The Chancel Choir rehearses Sunday mornings at 9:30am.

Music reading skills are helpful but not required.  Requirements are a love of singing and a commitment of time each week to prepare for service music and a willingness to learn.  New members are welcome!

Handbell Choir

Ashley Platts, Director

The Roy S. Hutchinson Joyful Ringers Handbell Choir is open to all persons from middle school through adult.  They provide special music for the worship services periodically.

The Handbell Choir rehearses Sunday evenings at 4:30 p.m. All you need to participate is a love of music, a basic ability to read music, and a desire to have fellowship with other members to Ring for Joy!

Children's Choirs

Angela Harris,

Cherub Choir Director

Dr. Don Rogers,

Covenant Choir Director

The Cherub Choir is open to children aged four through first grade at the beginning of the school year. Using the educational techniques of Kindermusik, Carl Orff, Maria Montessori, and Zoltán Kodály, the children learn and develop the fundamentals of music and singing with fun activities and games.

The Covenant Choir is for children grades two through five who have a love of singing. This choir prepares children not only to be good singers and musicians but also prepares them for a music leadership role in the worship of the church. This choir sings in the church at least once each school semester, usually at Christmas and Easter.
