SACRAMENTS

Within the Presbyterian Church, we recognize two sacraments: The Lord’s Supper (or Communion) and Baptism.

Communion

Communion is observed the first Sunday of each month as part of our regular worship service, except for the months of January and April. For Presbyterians, communion represents our spiritual connection to Christ. It is a “joyful feast of the people of God” that serves as a reminder that Christ offered his life for us so that we may have life more abundantly.

Our church welcomes all those who trust in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, members and visitors alike, to participate in the service of communion. For children who have never had communion before, we recommend that they attend one of our Children at the Lord’s Table classes so that they will be aware of the meaning behind this sacrament.

Baptism

For Presbyterians, “baptism is both a sign and seal of the covenant of grace made by God through Jesus Christ and extended to us. In baptism, God claims us as beloved children and members of Christ’s body, the church, washing us clean from sin as we renounce the power of evil and seek the will and way of God” in our world.

For Presbyterians, the sacrament of baptism is “a communal act of public worship.” This means that we only baptize during our regular worship services. We also acknowledge adult, children and infant baptisms. Adult baptism is commonly known as a “believer’s baptism” and is offered to any adult who has never been baptized before and wishes to join our church. For children and infants, we acknowledge baptism as a sign of God’s faithfulness expressed through their family, and is available to children of all members of our congregation.
